The Diocese of Kondoa was formally established on 12 March 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI, taking its territory from the Diocese of Dodoma. (fides.org) Our first and only bishop, Bernardin Francis Mfumbusa, has led the diocese since its creation, guiding the young local Church to grow in faith and service within its communities.
Evangelization in Kondoa is lived out every day — not only in churches, but in homes, schools, farms, and villages. In a region where Catholics are a minority and most people are Muslim, our mission is rooted in witness, dialogue, and service. Our priests, religious, and lay leaders walk alongside the people, offering care, education, and health services. The diocese operates orphanages, a health center, and small pharmacies in remote areas, demonstrating that faith is lived through action.
Bishop Mfumbusa emphasizes that, while resources are limited, the Church strives to touch every part of the diocese: building community, strengthening families, and forming leaders at every level. Lay catechists and religious sisters play a crucial role in reaching distant villages, teaching children, and accompanying the faithful in prayer and sacramental life.
Our approach to evangelization is holistic: it combines preaching with concrete acts of love, supporting sustainable development, and fostering unity across different faith communities. Every parish seeks to be a beacon of hope, a place where people can experience God’s love through service, friendship, and shared life
